Online Beschreibung, Das eben-Schwert besteht aus einer breiten, blattförmigen Klinge und einem schmalen Griff mit einem weiten Ring am unteren Ende. Dem Material, Eisen, wird in Benin starke spirituelle Kraft nachgesagt, die mit den Ahnen in Verbindung steht. Königliche eben-Schwerter können zusätzlich Verzierungen aus Messing aufweisen. Bei der jährlich stattfindenden Ugie-Erha-Oba-Zeremonie wurden sie von König und Würdenträgern getragen. Letztere begrüßten den König mit erhobenem eben-Schwert. Auf dem Höhepunkt der Zeremonie berührte der König mit seinem eben-Schwert die Altäre seiner königlichen Ahnen und erneuerte damit seine Verbindung zu ihnen. [Benin_Königreich]
