Curator's Comment/s | This album contains photographs of objects from the Kingdom of Benin, Nigeria sold by the London-based dealer, William Downing Webster. Many of the photographs are annotated with information relating to the vendor/s and some include purchase prices. It is likely that the photographic series was compiled by Webster in the early 1900s. The objects depicted in this photograph were sold by William Webster as follows: 9925. to the State Ethnographic Collections of Saxony - Museum für Völkerkunde Dresden in 1901. Accession number: 16187. 9922. unknown. 9935. sold at J. C. Stevens auction, London on 10 April 1900. In private collection of James T. Hooper, UK by circa 1945. Purchased from Christies, London, on 14 July 1976, lot 55 by Mrs & Mrs Klaus G. Perls. Donated by thePerls in 1991 to the Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York, USA.
