Label Text (deu)	Trommeln Unbekannte Werkstatt, Königreich Benin, Nigeria, 19. Jh. / Holz, Tierhaut / Ankauf vom Museum für Kunst und Gewerbe Hamburg, 1898, Inv. Nr. C 2311 Trommler sind Angehörige einer Gilde der Palastgesellschaft Iwebo. Sie treten bei der Einsetzung von Amtsträgern und bei Palastzeremonien auf. Das Fell der Trommeln mit Schnurbespannung wird mittels Stiften justiert, wofür stets eine Hilfsperson notwendig ist. Auf Kriegszügen wurden kleinere Handtrommeln mitgeführt und geschlagen, um die Soldaten anzutreiben und die Feinde einzuschüchtern.
Label Text (eng)	Drums Unidentified workshop, Benin Kingdom, Nigeria, 19th century / Wood, animal skin / Acquired from the Museum für Kunst und Gewerbe Hamburg, 1898, Inv. no. C 2311 Drummers are members of a guild pertaining to the Iwebo palace society. They perform at the installation of officials and at palace ceremonies. The skin of the drums is fastened with strings, their adjustment with pins requires the help of an assistant. Smaller hand drums were carried on war campaigns and were beaten to animate the soldiers and intimidate the enemy.
