Curator's Comment/s | This album contains photographs of objects from the Kingdom of Benin, Nigeria sold by the London-based dealer, William Downing Webster. Many of the photographs are annotated with information relating to the vendor/s and some include purchase prices. It is likely that the photographic series was compiled by Webster in the early 1900s. The objects depicted in this photograph were sold by William Webster as follows: 65: to the Museum of Archaeology & Anthropology, University of Cambridge, in 1902. Accession number: E 1902.446. 66. date unknown until 1958 with dealer John J. Klejman, New York; Purchased by Nelson A. Rockefeller, New York in 1958. On loan to Museum of Primitive Art, New York 1958-1972. Donated by Rockefeller to Museum of Primitive Art in 1972. Transferred to Metroploitan Museum of Art in 1978.
